The older days were different. There was a hunt for knowledge but not fancy. There was a desire for riches but not attention. Knowledge wasn't accessible to all. This resulted in a lack of regrets as they never learnt much about the innumerable opportunities. What actually has changed is is the accessibility of knowledge has now become universal. Any underdog can be a champion the next day. Much of the practical knowledge required for building a career is just a few clicks away. The likes of Elon Musk have shown the world how one can build a fortune by becoming self-taught speaking of which he mastered the art of rocket science.
Now there is a lack of setbacks for people. They now know the 'How to' to fulfil their desires needless to mention the 'WHAT TO'. Then what is responsible for the paradox of this world wherein people regret their lives having known almost everything required to achieve their goals.
They say little knowledge is dangerous than no knowledge. This can be considered as the first factor responsible for the formation of a regretting soul. What they never said about knowledge was that knowledge is dangerous. Your mind might as well pop up questions like how is that possible? knowledge is meant to enlighten one then how does it acquire the vulnerability of a curse? it is most often so that people don't want to know/hear the truth as they don't want their illusions to be destroyed. so having known the way to their destiny they now regret to have learnt that if it wasn't meant for them they would have never failed and found something peculiar to their own temperament. The ever increasing pressure from society compels one to choose the way everyone is and now having got the report that only a few were able to make it to where everyone collectively wanted to be upsets people as they realize that they had made yet another bad decision. Either what they wished was untrue or their way of making it possible was incorrect.
We now are acquainted with thousands of people but how many do we feel connected to? We undertake journeys irrespective of our desires and eventually end up the way we never expected to be. The failure to recognize oneself in this virtual world takes us far away from the self we need to lead a life of fulfillment.
We never know what fate has in store for us, the process of discovering one's self is to ask yourself why do you wish to undertake a journey you never knew about? You might as well never be able to trace the origin of interest in you but somewhere or in someone else. In that case, you have never been yourself the entire life, meaning which you failed by default. The author of a couple of bestsellers and one of the most influential leaders Simon Sinek having inspired millions has said:
" If you are a millennial, you are not you".
There's no denying the fact that even if we think we are doing what we actually want, or desire , the matter stands debatable as we never questioned why we want what we want. The association of rewarding behaviour, people witness in front of them with their own desires is where the origin of the regretting lives of the millennials can be traced. They eventually realise that it was never their cup of tea and now after having known that building a fortune isn't choosing to follow your emotions based on an observation of rewarding behaviour for someone else and undertaking a journey to replicate it and find oneself in the same position they saw the one being rewarded with.
The lack of long term vision results in individuals making such bad decisions. For those who didn't act so shoulder a great responsibility. But even then the world keeps on whetting their appetite for the inessential.
Some might even fall prey to such fancies. The responsibility of one's fortune demands persistence and the day offers a greater challenge for those who choose to stay focused. Well, this brings us to a loop of immediate gratifications wherein you get rewarded temporarily only to return to chase that feeling again and again and again. You still have the vision in your mind but the knowledge that you have distracted yourself torments you for giving in to immediate gratification. You know what to do but you probably don't know how to keep yourself strong enough to lose your grip with the self you have nearly discovered. The knowledge action gap explains that even if we know what to do and still defocus ourselves from our objectives makes us kick ourselves. This leads us to yet another point that after a certain point we feel like giving up or not continuing for the moment. This can be best explained with the spotlight effect. This means the magnifying of your fears and anxieties to take the required action pulling your mind away from doing anything that it finds harmful, difficult or uncomfortable. The fear you experience is an illusion of yours that your mind creates. It treats change as pain. The continuance of a journey or process is essential for the fulfilment of one's desires. This is a habit you need to develop as you progress further in your journey. Forming new habits Ali g the way is challenging due to the same. Developing a habit is a change that your mind treats like pain and compels you to refrain from it.
