You keep standing at a certain spot and remain on the very spot for a prolonged duration either gossiping or sipping. (That was just some introductory humour). Well, we cant dive into it without having given you the dosage of Phonetic Innovation. What difference is there however between the two: Gossiping and sipping, one the one hand you are sipping your favourite drink or your hot latte which unarguably satiates you for the time being, and on other hand, you are sipping out pleasure from your own experiences discussing about what was it about an event, experience, or a person that was laughable, saucy, and nonetheless satiated your boredom, after all, either ways your are satiating yourself on account of external sources. But we are not going to discuss this concern whatsoever as of today.
Now imagine after having remained at the same spot for long, a line is marked adjacently and you are now instructed not to cross that line even if you want to.
Do you think you will feel the same, Hopefully not? Because now you will be fidgety about what's the catch which governs the restriction.
You might as well start looking for help to find out about the very same concern. Concluding that it's something rather more dangerous past that line seems far more inevitable than we can think of. So what is it that you do next, you move away from the line meaning which you move away from danger as directed by your knowledge?
You reach back home, after an hour or so you start introspecting on the very same experience. But did it occur to you that what was it that did not trouble you in the first place?
You lacked knowledge, which was given to you eventually by someone you didn't even know and this is exactly the moment you start questioning the credibility of the person who instructed you not to cross the line.
So what do you do about it? Well, why bother about the same so much, you have a life to live, stick to your routine, complete your tasks maybe watch your favourite show and at the end of the day go to bed. That's it you have served all your needs, anything else you want.?
You would rather not approach anything which seems uncertain and unfamiliar to your experiences. Well, we talked about serving one's needs, and you might as well have checked ( almost) all the boxes. But the one thing you just missed out on was curiosity.
A wise man once said, " Curiosity is the mother of all inventions".
And out of all you failed to serve curiosity which defines our lack of farsightedness. The greatest of inventions were never resonated or planned, they were mere accidents on account of curiosity. Yet those accidents revolutionized the world ever after. Steve Jobs in his commencement speech at Harvard addresses the audience if not having any idea what to do or how to approach his career. He took up a course in calligraphy and had no idea how it would benefit him, but he never gave up on his work ethic and discipline, needless to say, he did not believe in predetermining or a predestined fate. In a later phase of his life, the mac was the only computer in the world to have a handwritten font on a computer which made a lot of difference in the industry of technology, writing and printing. And if as Jobs quotes " Had Microsoft not copied apple Inc then the mac would have been the only computer to have such fonts and script manuals." He further states that everything he had accomplished in his life was a product of his past experiences. The experiences gave him no clue to build a career solely out of it.
He followed the trail and now while delu erring his speech he realizes that it was all meant to be, all meant to fall into place if made proper use of. He calls it connecting the dots which proved to be the most vital aspect for building the greatest technology-based company. Having started from his garage The Apple Inc headquarters look like an oval and hollow spaceship. The sights are staggering, and that is what the power that curiosity beholds.
It's been a decade since Jobs has passed but his legacy will always be everlasting.
But what relevance does it have with this article? Jobs lacked knowledge, the curse of common knowledge, a discourse established by the mediocre who had no idea or intention of innovation. He denied believing that trivialities could lead to such establishments. The person who told you not to cross the marked line is one such individual who belongs to the ones who govern the discourse of mediocrity and now since you chose to accept his knowledge you are no different.
What's more interesting here is that curiosity might not suffice for the same. Along with curiosity, you need the courage to follow your instincts that form a trail to build a fortune governed by farsightedness. The relationship between curiosity and courage is that of a romantic relationship, both need to stick together and establish a firm grip to make it count.
